Garda car rammed and shot fired during late-night arrests

Two men arrested by gardaí investigating organised crime.

TWO MEN IN THEIR 20S HAVE BEEN arrested in Co Louth following an incident in Omeath area around midnight last night.

A garda patrol car was rammed and gardaí fired one shot. No injuries have been reported.

One of the men was arrested at the scene and the second a short distance away.

The two men were arrested by gardaí investigating criminal activity under the ongoing Operation Anvil project which targets organised crime.

Yesterday, Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan said that the garda budget for Operation Anvil has been cut by over a half, from €21m to €10m.

A technical examination of the scene is underway.
