THE GARDA AIR support unit and numerous garda cars were involved in a chase with a hijacked taxi in the early hours of this morning.
At 2.30am gardaí were alerted to a hijacking that took place on Ballyboggan Road in Finglas.
A short time later the stolen vehicle was spotted on the M50 and a chase ensued for around half an hour before the hijackers were eventually stopped by gardaí at Mellows Crescent in Finglas.
The chase was widely remarked upon by locals on social media who described it as “like a scene from a movie”.
Two men, one in his 20s and one in his 30s, were arrested at the scene on Mellows Crescent.
They are both detained at Finglas Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
One of the gardaí received a large gash to his arm during the course of the arrest and is being treated at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown.
The officer is expected to make a full recovery.
