Gardaí make two arrests in connection with Kilkeel murder

The shooting took place in the Rooney Park area of Kilkeel in Co Down last Saturday night.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED two men in connection with the murder of one man and the wounding of another in the village of Kilkeel, Co Down last weekend.

The two men are being held at Pearse Street garda station under section 50 of the criminal justice act. They were arrested in conjunction with officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland, who have been investigating the shooting.

A man in his 20s was arrested on Wednesday after he made inquiries about a passport application at the garda station.

A follow up arrest of another man in his 20s occurred last night in the north Dublin area.

The incident occurred last Saturday night when an altercation between two groups of foreign nationals in the Rooney Park area of Kilkeel led to the shooting dead of a Lithuanian man.

Gardaí say they can hold the two men for up to seven days.
