Gardaí arrest fifth man after in attempted robbery at Cork home

All four men are being questioned under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to seven days.

GARDAÍ IN CORK have arrested a fifth man after last night’s attempted armed robbery at a house in the east of the county.

Gardaí were already holding four men after foiling an attempted robbery at a house in the Glounthaune area in the east of the county.

They have now confirmed that a fifth man in his 40s was arrested and is being held at Mayfield Garda Station.

The aggravated burglary took place early this morning at the home of a local businessman. Two men were arrested after an extensive search of the surrounding areas which included the use of a garda helicopter.

Two other men, n their 30s and 40s, were arrested near the house in the village of Glounthaune. Gardaí are believed to be searching for weapons used in the robbery.

It is unknown how many people were in the house at the time.

The other men are being held at Midleton and Cobh Garda stations. All are being held under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for up to seven days.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information is urged to contact Cobh Garda Station on 021 490 8530.
