MUSIC RETAILER HMV will open a new online store today in its latest expansion since reopening in September.
HMV.ie will be launched this afternoon at 3pm. The music retail chain says it will be a “fully transactional website”, and will offer express delivery and collection options for products.
This online store will be in addition to their four high street shops in the Republic of Ireland.
The company says that the launch of HMV.ie will be closely followed by HMVIreland.co.uk, its Northern Irish counterpart, and where the chain currently have just one store.
In a statement, Hilco Capital Ireland CEO Larry Howard said that it was important for HMV for the store to go ahead of the Christmas period as it is “traditionally one of the busiest times of year for online retailing”
The retailer entered receivership last February with 300 staff being made redundant. It reopened in September following extensive restructuring by Hilco Capital, who bought the struggling chain in a deal worth around €59 million.

Another digital venture by HMV, an iOS app, was suspended from the Apple App Store last month soon after its launch. No reason has yet been given for the suspension, a spokesperson for HMV Ireland said.
Its UK counterpart was suspended due to the ability to download MP3s within the app and bypassing iTunes, ComputerworldUK reports.
