Investigation into death of 15-year-old in sledding accident
Teenage girl died after home-made sled struck a tree on a golf course near Douglas, Co Cork.
GARDAÍ HAVE LAUNCHED an investigation into the fatal sledding accident in which one teenager was killed yesterday and three others were injured, RTÉ reports.
Two girls and two boys, all aged between 14 and 16, were using a sheet of wood as a sled.
A 15-year-old girl died after the home-made sled went out of control and struck a tree on the Frankfield Golf Club, near Douglas, Co Cork.
Two of the other three teenagers remain in serious condition in hospital in Cork, and the fourth was discharged last night.
The Irish Examiner reports that the incident is believed to have occurred at around 2.30pm yesterday and gardaí have sealed the area off.
Heavy snow fell in Cork on Friday night, and further snow showers are forecast for parts of Cork today. AA Roadwatch warns that secondary routes in the county are dangerous this morning, and says road conditions are particularly hazardous in Mallow, Fermoy and Farran.
