NATIONAL HERITAGE WEEK was in August, and the Irish people were asked to send in their photos of historical monuments and heritage sites, with this year’s theme being family.
The photo competition results have been announced, and here are the winners:
Day at the Market
The overall winner (in the Adult category) was Derry Ann Morgan from Co Meath, for this great shot of two generations at a traditional Irish country market.
Experience
John O’Byrne from Co Kildare came out on top in the Youth category with this photo of his dad “out in the shed, rebuilding an old bicycle, trying to preserve a bit of history.”
Sam at the Cliffs
This terrifying shot of three-year-old Sam O’Neill overlooking the cliffs near the lighthouse on Clare Island was taken by his brother Andy, and won the Junior category.
Before you get concerned – Sam’s dad was holding on tight, out of picture.
And here were the runners up in various categories:
Dark Hedges, by Geraldine Coleman from Co Antrim
Dun Aengus, by Joe Houghton from Co Galway
Giant’s Causeway, by Iphshita Ray from Co Antrim
Old cottage, by Alice Corley from Co Mayo
Siblings, by Matt McDonald from Dublin
Three Generations, by Mikey O’Regan from Co Wexford
