Kerry man collects €250,000 Lotto win

The New Year is off to a good start for one lucky Kerry man…

A MAN IN Co Kerry will be starting 2014 a little more comfortably after collecting a €250,000 Lottery win today.

The lucky winner, who wishes to keep his identity private, won the top prize in Saturday 14 December’s Lotto Plus 2 draw, having bought a Quick Pick ticket in Counihan’s shop, Princes Street, Tralee.

He realised he had won while reading The Kerryman newspaper.

“I read in the paper that a winning ticket was sold in Counihan’s the week before but I couldn’t remember if I’d bought my ticket there,” he said. “I memorised the first three numbers from the newspaper then quickly went to get my ticket from my wallet. I saw I had the first three then checked the rest and they matched. I couldn’t believe it.”

The lucky winner celebrated Christmas with his family before collecting his winnings today. He plans to share his quarter-of-a-million euro prize with his loved ones.
