GARDAÍ IN KILDARE have arrested four men after a number of searches this morning.
A number of premises around the town of Athy were raided at around 8am and uncovered a stash of drugs, contraband and cash.
Cannabis with a street value of around €15,000 was uncovered in one property with a man in his 30s being arrested and held under the Criminal Justice Act.
Another one of the searches uncovered 20 kilos in contraband tobacco as well as €13,000 in cash and €500 in cannabis was seized.
Two men in their 20s have been arrested and are currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Small amount of heroin (subject to analysis) and cannabis were also found at two other locations in the town.
A fourth man has been arrested under the Non-Fatal Against the Person Act 1997.
These busts were all carried out as part of Operation Thor, a project launched last November with the aim of cracking down on rural crime – specifically burglaries.
