Lightning strikes one of the world's largest nudist beaches

Three people were injured in the incident on Miami’s Haulover Beach.

ONE OF THE world’s largest nudist beaches has been struck by lightning.

Three people are being treated for injuries following the incident at Haulover Beach in Miami.

NBC South Florida is reporting that the incident happened yesterday afternoon at around 4.15pm.

The lightning hit the sea and left two individuals unconscious and a third possibly suffering from a cardiac arrest. All of these were said to be male.

According the the Miami Herald the three men were most likely part of the same group and aged somewhere in their 40s or 50s.

Speaking about the incident, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Lt. Matthew Sparling said:

The lightning had dissipated throughout the water and the electricity traveled through the water and hit the individuals — likely causing cardiac arrest in the individual that was treated at the scene.

The man treated at the scene was airlifted to a nearby trauma centre while the other two were sent to local hospitals.

Another witness told local station WSVN, ”It looked like people were just relaxing in the water.”

And I thought to myself, ‘why are people just hanging out in the water after that happened?’ But they were really kinda paralysed. They couldn’t move, and then there was some guy face down in the water.

The beach had been closed for around 10 minutes in the lead up to the incident due to the bad weather and people were being cleared when the strike happened.
