London tube station closed after suspect package discovered

Police have carried out a controlled explosion and say the incident has now been stood down.

A TUBE STATION in London was evacuated this evening after a suspect package was discovered.

Metropolitan Police confirmed that a controlled explosion was carried out.

It says the incident has now been stood down.

We were dealing with a suspect package in #Islington. A controlled explosion was carried out, and the incident was stood down at 19.34hrs.

Earlier, Transport for London confirmed that police cordoned off Angel station to investigate a security alert outside the station.

Angel station is closed while we respond to a security alert outside the station. Tickets are being accepted on London Buses.

Some people in the area took to social media to share photos and report that they heard a loud bang.
