GALWAY FOOTBALLER SEÁN ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald has made his Love Island debut – and is already causing drama in the villa. 

The first episode of season 13 of the UK show aired from a Majorcan villa last night with Maya Jama as host.

Seán, a 25-year-old primary school teacher, found himself choosing between two contestants on the show: Robin and Lola.

The GAA star chose Lola over Robin, who had admitted earlier she was ‘drawn to him’. But he said Lola was, ultimately, “wifey material”.

Robin looked upset over the comment, and Seán went on to say he didn’t know her well enough yet to say the same.

While chatting to Robin earlier in the day, Seán called her a “spoofer” after she said she was interested in him.

“You’re a spoofer, man, the smell of bullshit off you,” he said.

Robin had to ask what a spoofer was, to which he explained it is “someone who’s chatting shit”.

Speaking alone to the cameras after the interaction, Seán said Robin was “good craic” and “laying it on thick”.

Meanwhile, his nickname is causing confusion with the UK audience after he introduced himself as Fitzy.

“Seán, how do you get a name like Fitzy?” one viewer asked, while others also shared their confusion.

‘Fair play to him’

Seán stepped away from the Galway panel last month amid reports linking him with the show.

He missed out on Galway’s Connacht final squad against Roscommon and will now be absent for the county’s attempts to lift a first Sam Maguire since 2001.

Speaking to RTÉ, his former teammate Rob Finnerty said he had known for a while that there was a chance the footballer would be entering the villa. Fitzgerald and the team’s management then informed the panel together.

“Everyone was happy enough for him. It’s a decision he’s made. We’ll be watching him, and we’re excited to see how he gets on. Fair play to him, it’s something he wanted to do,” Finnerty said.

The primary school teacher first posted an application video for the show on his TikTok account in February, where he said, “Love Island, please have me”, and he doesn’t understand why people don’t scare other contestants while they’re “getting active”.

In Love Island’s announcement of Seán joining the villa, it released a short Q&A with the GAA player.

He said his ‘type on paper’ is “female”, and he dislikes “cockiness and a dry personality”.

“I’m here for love but also here for drama. I won’t be getting involved in it, I might be mixing it!” he said.
