Love/Hate will not be back next year - but this isn't the end

A sixth season is currently in development, so everyone can just calm down.

RTÉ HAS CONFIRMED today that Love/Hate will not be returning to Irish screens next year.

However Head of Drama in RTÉ Television Jane Gogan has said a sixth series is currently in development with creator Stuart Carolan and Octagon Films.

The recent series finale was explosive – to say the least – and people are still talking about the controversial prison shower scene.

In a statement RTÉ said that Carolan feels it’s important to take time and reflect before going into production with a sixth season.

As a public service broadcaster RTE’s principal concern is always the audience and the creative dynamic of a drama and we all want to ensure the writing, preparation and production of a subsequent series mirrors the high standards Love/Hate viewers have come to expect over the past five seasons.
