Do you drink more or less than low-risk alcohol consumption guidelines currently advise?

Current guidelines advise no more than 17 standard drinks per week for men and 11 for women.

ON WEDNESDAY, THE Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) published a report supporting an update to Ireland’s low-risk alcohol guidelines.

These guidelines, which outline the level of alcohol consumption considered lower risk for health and wellbeing, were last updated in 2015. They currently advise no more than 17 standard drinks per week for men and 11 for women.

With that, the HSE also recommends that people do not consume more than six standard drinks on any one occasion.

If you’re unsure what counts as a standard unit of alcohol – it’s roughly equivalent to a half pint of beer, 100ml of wine or a single pub measure of spirits.

With these guidelines to potentially be reviewed and updated, today we’re asking: Do you drink more or less than low-risk alcohol consumption guidelines currently advise?

Poll Results:

I usually drink more than what is advised (2511)
I usually drink less than what is advised (2305)
I don't drink at all (1321)
It varies each week (900)
I tend to drink the exact amount advised (291)
I'd rather not say (110)
