Man (63) who died in single-vehicle Galway crash named locally

THE MAN WHO lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in County Galway this morning has been named locally.

Matthew “Mattie” Noone (63) from Rookhill, Ballinamore Bridge, Galway was well-known around the area and tributes have flowed following his death.

Locals described Mr Noone as a “talented tradesman”, a “lovely, hardworking man”, and a “gentleman”.

One friend said: “Deepest sympathy to Mattie’s wife and family on the sad passing of Mattie. A great man and a pure gentleman.”

The collision happened at Tyrur in Newbridge, Ballinasloe this morning at around 9:45am.

No other injuries were reported.

The road was closed for technical examination by Forensic Collision investigators.

In a statement issued by the family, they said: “Thank you sincerely for your thoughtfulness at this sad time.”

No funeral arrangements have been made as yet.

Road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam footage and were travelling in the area between 9.30am and 9.50am this morning are asked to give it to investigating gardaí.
