Man dies after shooting in central Belfast

The man, in his 30s, was attacked shortly before 9:30pm, and died later at the Royal Victoria Hospital.

A MAN in his 30s has been killed in a gun attack in central Belfast.

The shooting happened in the College Square area of Belfast, right in the city centre, just before 9:30pm last night.

The deceased is thought to have been shot a number of times, and the BBC reported local witnesses as having heard up to seven gunshots.

The man was still conscious when brought to the Royal Victoria Hospital a short distance away, but died in that hospital an hour after the attack.

It is thought that the man, who was not a member of the police services or the defence forces, was visiting a relative in the area.

The scene remains cordoned off and the PSNI have asked the public to avoid the area.
