Gardaí name victim in fatal Santry shooting

A man in his 50s has been arrested after another man in his 40s was shot dead in Santry last night.

GARDAI HAVE NAMED  the man shot dead in Santry in north Dublin last night.

Officers said Edward Flanagan, 49 from Coolock was shot at The Green apartment complex in Larch Hill  at around 10.30pm last night and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A man in his 50s is still being detained at Ballymun Garda station and there have been no futher arrests.

The State pathologist and a garda technical examination team has been examining the scene of the crime in the third floor apartment this morning.

The man’s body has been removed from the scene, reports RTÉ, with gardaí carrying out an extensive search of the apartment and the complex.

Gardaí are also investigating reports of a number of men who are believed to have been seen running away from the scene.

Officers renewed appeals for any witnesses in the Larch Hill area of Santry last night to contact them at Santry garda station on 01 666 4000.
