Man still in custody over Portlaoise death

Tommy Thompson went missing in 2007 – his body was found in 2008 and a man was arrested for his murder yesterday.

A MAN IS still in custody after being arrested by police investigating the murder of Thomas (Tommy) Thompson in 2007.

Gardaí from Portlaoise  arrested the man, who is in his 30′s, in Ballymote, Co Sligo yesterday, 20 June.

The man is being detained under the provisions of section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.

Thompson, 59, a Yorkshire man who had been working in Ireland, was reported missing on 20 April 2007.

Human remains found at Dysart, Portlaoise on 23 January 2008 were identified as the body of Thompson.

Thompson had gone missing from his home at Borris Road, Portlaoise.
