THE PSNI ARRESTED two men last night following reports that they chased local children on a Derry street while wielding hatchets.

Police arrived at Clonmeen Drive in the city after hearing reports that the man was armed.

A 44-year-old man was arrested at the scene at about 9.50pm. The PSNI advised that a taser was deployed during the incident and the police ombudsman has been informed.

A second man, aged 42, was later arrested after residents informed police of his involvement.

One man remains in custody but the second has been released on bail. Investigations are continuing.
