"Goodbye our sweet little princess": Merryn Lacy dies after brave cancer battle

The family of the little girl confirmed her death this afternoon.

THE FAMILY OF Merryn Lacy, who had fought a rare form of children’s cancer, have confirmed her death.

Diagnosed age four with neuroblastoma, the little girl received intensive treatment for the condition for three years.

“Goodbye our sweet little princess,” her family wrote on Facebook today.

“This afternoon your little body had enough and you departed this world. No more pain! You leave us with so many happy memories.

“Our lives aren’t just measured in years. They’re measured in the lives of people we touch around us.

Merryn was diagnosed with the aggressive cancer in July of 2013, while her family were in London for a few days visiting friends.

Her parents said that Merryn “just wasn’t herself” and that she was unusually tired and was complaining of a sore tummy.

When they returned home they went to the doctor – ending up in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin at 2am.

Diagnosis

Following scans, Merryn was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. She began treatment immediately, and underwent an operation to remove a tumour the following March.

The Merryn Lacy Trust was set up to help fund her treatments of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and a number of campaigns were organised.

Her family have been posting updates on the little girl’s condition on Facebook and Twitter in recent months.

They confirmed her death late this afternoon.
