GARDAÍ IN MONAGHAN are appealing for witnesses to a fatal crash that left a man in his 70s dead.
The crash occurred today on the N2 between Castleblaney and Carrickmacross.
The crash, which happened shortly before 5pm, saw a car and articulated lorry collide near McCaughey’s filling station.
The driver of the car, a man believed to be in his 70s, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. The driver of the lorry was taken by ambulance to hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.
The road is currently closed to traffic in both directions as gardaí and emergency services continue to examine the crash site. The road is expected to remain closed overnight and local diversions are in place.
