Looking for a dream job in the Irish car industry? DoneDeal Cars may have the answer

Could you be the voice of Ireland’s biggest car marketplace?

I’LL BE HONEST, I didn’t expect to be writing this one.

For the past year, I’ve been Head of Automotive Content and Communications at DoneDeal Cars, and I’m leaving. It’s not because I’ve gone off cars—after 25+ years in the Irish motor industry, that would be a worrying development. But it does mean that the best job in Ireland is now available in a brand I love.

So here’s the pitch.

The job is to be the voice of Ireland’s biggest car marketplace. In practice that has meant radio, TV, podcasts and video, often in the same week. It has meant turning DoneDeal Cars data into a headline people actually want to read, and driving new cars and then explaining honestly what they’re like to live with.

Mostly, though, it means explaining things: finance, EVs, emissions, the lot. Most people buying a car don’t want a lecture on PCP structures or WLTP figures. They want to know what’s going to happen to their money and whether they’re making a good decision that fits their stage of life. If you can make the complicated simple without making it dull, you’ll be good at this.

What I’ll miss most is the freedom. It’s rare to have a job where you get to tell stories about something people genuinely care about, in front of a national audience, and where you decide what the story is. Nobody hands you a script. You’re trusted to find the angle, and then you’re backed when you go for it.

That brings me to the people. DoneDeal Cars is part of Distilled, the group behind Daft.ie, DoneDeal, and PropertyPal. It’s full of smart, kind, ambitious colleagues. They move fast and want you to do your best work. It’s not just me saying it, either. Distilled has been in the top five in Great Place to Work Ireland for six years running. That doesn’t happen by accident. They are great people to work with, so you’ll enjoy being part of the team.

So who are we looking for? Someone who loves cars and loves media, and is happiest when the two meet: the mic, the camera, the byline, the late-night radio phone-in. You’ll be a voice for cars in Ireland. You don’t need an encyclopaedic knowledge of engines, just the sort of enthusiasm that makes a nice car feel like a good day out. The role is based in Dublin, with hybrid working.

If that sounds like you, or someone you know who’s been quietly shouting at the radio about car finance for years, you can apply here.

I’d say the job is as good as it sounds, but that would undersell it. Whoever gets it will do some of the best work of their career.
