1. #SHOT: A 45-year-old Irish criminal has been shot dead in a bar near Marbella in Spain. RTÉ reports that the man was a drug dealer and enforcer, and well known to Gardaí.

2. #COURT: A man arrested after a fatal stabbing at a psychiatric hospital in Waterford on Friday is due to appear in court later today. Maria O’Brien, a resident of the hospital, died in the attack.

3. #KITE-FLYING: The Budget speculation is gathering pace this morning. The Sunday Times leads with a story saying Leo Varadkar will ask for a €500 million increase in the Department of Health’s budget. 

4. #NOT AMUSED: The same paper also has details of a new opinion poll on the Scottish independence debate. It shows the ‘Yes’ side pulling ahead for the first time. Apparently the Queen isn’t too happy.

5. #POLICE ACTION: All four Garda representative bodies will go to the High Court tomorrow in a bid to reverse a 50 per cent cut to sick-pay entitlements, according to the Irish Mail on Sunday.

6. #BURIAL: The funeral arrangements for the three O’Driscoll brothers, who died after an apparent murder-suicide on Thursday, have been confirmed by the family. Their removal will take place later today, with a funeral mass tomorrow.

7. #NO SURGE: A top Government adviser on housing says property prices are set to level off. Writing in the Sunday Independent, Chairman of the Housing Agency Conor Skehan says that house price increases have a “natural braking mechanism” – signs of which are already evident.

8. #FRAGILE: Shelling near the Ukrainian city of Mariupol is threatening the fragile ceasefire between government forces in the country and pro-Russian rebels, according to BBC News this morning. The truce was signed in Belarus and came into effect on Friday.

9. #THE OUTLOOK: How’s the weather looking, you ask? Not too bad for September… Good sunshine this morning, with a little cloud around in the afternoon. Highs of between 14 and 18 degrees, with the best of the weather in the south.
