Poll: Do you agree with the plan to scrap 1 and 2 cent coins?

All change?

MICHAEL NOONAN’S SET to recommend the scrapping of 1 and 2 cent coins from circulation later, when he presents a report on the issue from the Central Bank to Cabinet.

It’s after a pilot scheme in Wexford was deemed a huge success. Prices for cash transactions were rounded to the nearest five cent as part of the initiative. A number of other EU members states have already adopted the policy.

Supporters of the move point out that each one cent piece costs 1.7 cent to produce. However, charities have warned that they could miss out on millions, if the change goes ahead.

What do you think?

Poll Results:

Scrap them (14242)
Keep them (3723)
