For many Irish people, the census data offers a chance to go back in time and find out more about their ancestors.

THE 1926 CENSUS data was officially published at midnight.

The first census undertaken in the Irish Free State, its records have been digitised and are fully available to view online. The release of the census was marked by a state function at Dublin Castle this afternoon.

It can be searched here.

For many Irish people, it offers a chance to go back in time and see the ages, addresses, occupations, and even the handwriting of their ancestors.
