MET ÉIREANN HAS said the weather will turn unsettled this week, with showers, wind, sunny spells and cooler temperatures all on the cards. 

After a wet start to the year, the country saw some sun and higher temperatures recently, but it looks like the rain is back again.

The national forecaster has said this mixed weather is likely to remain mixed for Friday and into the weekend.

Today will be a cooler day with cloud and rain. Sunny spells are expected this afternoon with highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees.

Tonight will be dry with clear spells. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 5 degrees are expected, while a touch of frost is possible.

Tomorrow morning will be dry, but cloud and patchy light rain and drizzle is expected by afternoon. Highest afternoon temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees are expected.

Monday night is to be cloudy and breezy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. The temperature will stay mild with lowest temperatures of 6 to 10 degrees.

Tuesday will be a blustery day with sunny spells and widespread showers coming in from the northwest. Some of the showers will be heavy with the chance of some hail or thunder.

Highest temperatures of 8 to 12 degrees are expected, with fresh to strong and gusty westerly winds.

Tuesday night will remain blustery and bring clear spells and scattered showers, some of which may be of sleet and snow. Lowest temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees are expected, with fresh to strong and gusty west to northwest winds.

Wednesday will be a windy and cold day with sunny spells and scattered showers. Some of the showers may be of sleet or snow early in the morning and highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees are expected, with fresh to strong and gusty northwesterly winds.

Thursday looks to be a dull day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle spreading from the west. Highest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees are expected.
