TWELVE CARS WERE swallowed by a cave-in at a restaurant car park in Mississippi on Saturday night.
Cars and trucks dropped into the hole, which is reported to be about 15 feet deep, 35 feet wide and 400 feet long.
Meridian Public Safety Director Buck Roberts told The Meridian Star that the collapse at the IHOP restaurant was not the result of a sinkhole – which is caused when an underground water aquifer dries and leaves a void in the ground.
“You can call it what you want, a cave-in or whatever, but it is not a sinkhole.”
There were no reports of any injuries.
Authorities confirmed to AP that experts are expected to begin work today to determine the cause of the collapse.
