Five arrested and €316,000 of herbal cannabis seized by Revenue

Over 16 kilogrammes of cannabis was seized in two separate operations in Limerick and Rosslare today.

REVENUE’S CUSTOMS SERVICE has seized over 16 kilogrammes of cannabis with an estimated street value of €316,000 in two separate operations in Rosslare and Limerick today.

Officers seized 11.52kgs of herbal cannabis with a street value of approximately €230,000 in Rosslare Europort this afternoon after routine profiling.

The Customs X-Ray Scanner indicated an anomaly after scanning a vehicle arriving on a ferry from France an following further investigations the drugs were discovered concealed in the car.

A Lithuanian couple in their thirties were arrested and are currently being questioned at Wexford Garda Station.

In an unconnected, intelligence-led operation in Limerick, officers in Shannon and the gardaí seized 4.8 kilogrammes of herbal cannabis with a street value of €86,000.

The package originated in Spain and was intercepted this afternoon after it was delivered to an address in Pallaskenry in Co Limerick.

Three individuals are being detained for questioning by gardaí.
