Funeral details announced for Ryan Weir Gibbons as murder investigation launched

A murder investigation has been launched in connection with the death of the 29 year old who lived at Connagh Green in Kildare town.

FUNERAL DETAILS HAVE been announced for Ryan Weir Gibbons who died in Naas General Hospital on Thursday after he sustained severe head injuries following an assault last weekend in Kildare town.

Ryan, who was formerly of Mulhuddart and Blanchardstown in Dublin, was found unresponsive at Magee Terrace on the Dublin Road shortly after 3am last Sunday.

Gardaí are probing whether the attack on his person was related to an earlier exchange he had a with a group of young people on a bus. One line of investigation is that he may have asked to youths to stop making noise.

A postmortem examination was carried out on the deceased. The results were not released for operational reasons. Friends have posted tributes to Ryan online with one describing him as “one of the nicest lads you would ever meet.”

The Dublin Gaelic fans Facebook page posted a statement online in which they called Ryan “a proud Dub and passionate GAA fan.”

“His passing has left an unimaginable void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who knew him.

“Thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to Ryan’s parents, Ed and Elaine and his loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. A young life taken far too soon.”

In a death notice his family thanked the staff at the ICU in Naas Hospital for their “wonderful care” of Ryan.

He was predeceased by his sister Katie and his grandparents Edward and Sally.

He is survived by his parents Elaine and Edward, brother Andrew and his partner Habiba, sister Nicole and her partner Jordan, nieces Lottie and Sadie, grandparents John and Betty, aunts, uncles, extended family, neighbours and his many friends.

Ryan will lie in repose at McWeys Funeral Home, Abbeyview, Kildare Town on Thursday afternoon with prayers following later that evening.

His funeral mass will take place at St Brigid’s church in Kildare town at 11am on Friday with cremation following in Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harold’s Cross in Dublin. Both services will be live streamed.

Meanwhile, gardai are appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who was in the Dublin Road area between 2am and 4am last Sunday to contact them.
