THE EX-FIANCE OF Sofia Vergara has started a legal battle to gain control of the couples’ frozen embryos, saying leaving them frozen is like killing them.
However, the Modern Family star says she has no desire to have children with her ex Nick Loeb.
In an opinion piece headlined “Our Frozen Embryos Have a Right to Live” in The New York Times Loeb wrote:
“A woman is entitled to bring a pregnancy to term even if the man objects.
“Shouldn’t a man who is willing to take on all parental responsibilities be similarly entitled to bring his embryos to term even if the woman objects?”
In my view, keeping them frozen forever is tantamount to killing them.
“Many have asked me: Why not just move on and have a family of your own? I have every intention of doing so.
But that doesn’t mean I should let the two lives I have already created be destroyed or sit in a freezer until the end of time.
Both Loeb and Vergara signed a form stating that any embryos they created could only be brought to term if both of them agreed.
However, Loeb says the form didn’t specify what would happen to the embryos if they separated.
Vergara’s attorney issued a statement last month stating that the actress is “content to leave the embryos frozen indefinitely as she has no desire to have children with her ex, which should be understandable given the circumstances.”
She is now engaged to actor Joe Manganiello.
