SSE AIRTRICITY HAS announced another price hike for electricity customers this year.
It will increase its standard variable electricity prices and standing charges by 9.5% from 20 October 2025, adding around €151 a year to a typical household bill.
The price increase is set to impact over 200,000 households.
There will be no change for domestic gas customers.
This is the supplier’s second price rise so far in 2025, following a 10.5% electricity increase in April.
The company said the hike is due to higher network and system operator charges, ongoing wholesale volatility, and rising business costs.
SSE Airtricity’s Managing Director, Stephen Gallagher, said the company has payment plans and smart tariffs in place to help customers manage rising energy costs, and emphasised its commitment to delivering cleaner, greener energy.
Bord Gáis Energy and Pinergy also both announced price increases for customer this month.
Daragh Cassidy, spokesperson for price comparison site Bonkers.ie, said the increase is not a surprise.
“It usually doesn’t take long for one price increase to trigger others across the market – and SSE’s move today underlines that trend,” Cassidy said.
With no energy credits expected in this year’s Budget, the increases are “another sizeable hike that will add real pressure to many households already struggling with their bills,” Cassidy added.
“We need to ask how much of this should be paid for by consumers in their bills. I think more direct subvention from government is needed.”
