1. #SKIMMING Beware at the ATMs this weekend! It’s emerged that the number of cash machines that have been tampered with has increased fivefold in the last twelve months. There were 253 incidences of ‘ATM fraud’ in the first 18 weeks of the year. AIB has issued a warning to customers in recent days about problems with a number of Dublin machines.
2.#UNITED IRELAND? A new survey has found that 52 per cent of Northern Catholics would prefer Northern Ireland to remain associated with Britain. The number wanting a united Ireland has hit a record low meanwhile. TheJournal.ie is asking: Should there be a united Ireland?
3. #BAILOUT Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy have thrown Greece something of a lifeline after saying they want a second rescue package for the debt-ridden country pushed through as soon as possible. Meanwhile back home, the President of the European Council has given an indication that he wants to back Ireland’s push for an interest rate paid on its bailout. Herman Von Rompuy is in Dublin today to meet with the Taoiseach.
4. #WINNING Remember the guy who spent his last €2,000 on a billboard in Dublin begging someone to give him a job? Well Paddy Power bookmakers are never ones to miss an opportunity. They’ve told Féilim Mac An Iomaire that his gamble has paid off, giving him a role as a communications exec.
5. #GUITAR HERO After almost falling at the final hurdle, Irish guitarist Dave Browne has smashed the Guinness World Record for the most time spent playing a guitar, after strumming away for 114 hours and 20 minutes. Browne, who completed the feat at The Temple Bar Pub in Dublin had originally thought that 100 hours would be enough for him to claim the title.
