“IT FELT DREADFUL. I felt I let down my colleagues, I felt I let down my family.”
Terence Flanagan spoke to Miriam O’Callaghan on RTÉ Radio One this morning and opened up about his nightmare interview with Mary Wilson last month.
The TD explained how he had been up since 5am that morning and tiredness caught up with him.
He said that his adrenaline levels were falling after a very busy day and he wasn’t feeling 100% before the interview.
Sometimes the body gives up when you’re working so hard…as a consequence of what happened I have reviewed my whole work life balance.
“I was searching for the words and they just weren’t there.”
He added that the questions Wilson asked were very fair and reasonable.
Cringey
Flanagan said people were very empathetic and that some people stopped him when he was out and about and told him about their own experiences.
He said it wasn’t a panic attack and that he has learned from the experience and will make sure it doesn’t happen again.
I did feel like it was an outer body experience. It was most unfortunate but pushing one’s body and excessive tiredness doesn’t help.
“I did know the policies but it was just too much for me.”
“It’s done now. I just had to draw a line in the sand and get on with it.”
He admitted that watching Lucinda being asked about his interview on the Late Late Show that night was “cringey”.
Reaction
The Renua Ireland TD received mixed reaction from people on social media this morning listening to the interview:
