The 5 at 5 Five minutes, five stories, five o’clock…

EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, The Journal brings you five of the biggest stories of the day.

1. #EASTER WEATHER: Met Éireann has brought forward the weekend’s weather warnings, as the windy weather is expected to kick in earlier than forecast.

2. #IRAN: A US warplane has gone down over Iran and US forces are trying to rescue the crew, major US media outlets reported today after Iranian media aired footage of aircraft wreckage.

3. #ARTEMIS 2: Four Artemis astronauts have been zooming towards the Moon after a major engine firing, a milestone that commits NASA to the first crewed lunar flyby in more than half a century.

4. #GENERAL DE CHASTELAIN: Earlier today, the Department of Justice issued a statement from the Justice Minister about the reported death of Canadian General John de Chastelain. However, it has since retracted Jim O’Callaghan’s words as the general is not dead. The Journal has spoken to de Chastelain’s grandson who confirmed he is alive and well.

“In keeping with the spirit of the Good Friday Agreement, General de Chastelain attended Good Friday Service this morning in Ottawa along with his wife, Mary Ann. His family is happy to report General de Chastelain is in good health and spirits.”

5. #ROADS POLICING: Gardaí detected 680 drivers speeding in the last 24 hours, as a special roads policing campaign got underway for the Bank Holiday weekend.
