• Former minister and European Commissioner Pádraig Flynn has joined Bertie Ahern in quitting Fianna Fail ahead of the party voting to expel him.  He formally wrote to the party today to resign, the same day that FF confirmed Ahern had resigned by letter and Councillor John Hannon had also resigned his membership.
• More than 200 people are to lose their jobs after Game stores shut in Ireland today. More than 2000 jobs are to go in the company, which has 277 stores across the UK and Ireland. All stores in the Republic of Ireland are to shut.
• Israel has cut working relations with the UN Human Rights Council, accusing it of having a “pronounced anti-Israel bias” and having a “disproportionate focus” on Israeli policy toward the Palestinians.
• The Collins family moved to an unknown country today because they fear for their safety after their son was murdered in 2009. Justice Minister Alan Shatter said he “fully understands” the reasons why they emigrated.
• There is no difficulty paying the household charge if you want to pay it, junior finance minister Brian Hayes has insisted despite contradictory statements from senior ministers over the weekend. Hayes said he did not think there was any difficulty in paying the household charge and accused some people of “pretending” there was.
• Look to the stars tonight to see the moon, Venus and Jupiter in a wonderful formation.
• A new website has been created that allows people to record and monitor racism in Europe. It is supported by the Immigrant Council of Ireland.

• ‘Quick-fix’ diets have been dismissed by the Irish Heart Foundation, which is warning people about the dangers of over-the-counter meal replacement products. It says the only way to lose weight successfully is slowly.
• A Dublin study of intravenous drug users found that two-thirds of the participants died during the course of it. The average age of death was 36.
• Apartments in Dublin are now worth just 38 per cent of their peak price, new figures from the CSO show. Residential property prices across Ireland were down by an average of 2.2 per cent in February.
• Taoiseach Enda Kenny has told Chinese investors that Ireland “is growing again”. He also welcomed a €5 million investment in China by Irish company Morgan McKinley during his four-day trade mission to the country.
• Speaking of investments, one Dragon was reduced to tears when Jason O’Reilly appeared on Dragons’ Den last night with his sports-themed watches. He was successful in securing investment from two Dragons.
• Alcohol: A new survey looks at the side of drink culture “neglected by reality TV“, while our columnist Lisa McInerney writes about how Tallafornia isn’t real – but it is normalising bad behaviour. Plus, in our poll we ask if reality TV shows set a bad example for home drinking.
• The supermarket network SuperValu is to invest €20 million in an expansion project, creating 200 jobs in the process. It will add five new stores, its managing director Martin Kelleher told the network’s national conference.
• Finally, if you don’t shed a tear at this, it’s probably proof you don’t have a heart. Dog lovers around the world had their heart-strings tugged by an animal rescue video that has been doing the rounds this week. The video shows little blind dog Fiona, who was living on a pile of rubbish, being rescued from life on the streets. (via eldad75/Youtube)
