• Gardaí in Dublin have launched an investigation following the discovery of human remains in a forestry in Tallaght this morning. A post mortem examination is due to take place on the remains tomorrow.
• The elderly victim of a fatal stabbing in Kimmage, Dublin, yesterday has been identified as 74-year-old Edward Boylan. A 29-year-old man remains in Garda custody in connection with the murder investigation.
• There has been suggestion of Dublin City Council paying €50,000 a piece to buy 100 apartments at ill-fated Priory Hall apartment complex. However, a spokesperson for the displaced residents told TheJournal.ie that as residents have mortgages of at least €250,000, such a move would see them “homeless and forced into bankruptcy”. Residents were forced from their homes last October over serious safety concerns at the complex.
• Lending its support to the Vita Cortex workers, Unite said today that there is a growing trend of workers being “left in the cold” after they have been made redundant - and says that Nama and Irish banks are facilitating the wrongful treatment of former employees.
• The leaders of France and Germany are due to meet in Berlin tomorrow for preparatory discussions ahead of an EU summit on the bloc’s debt crisis scheduled for the end of this month.
• One fomer Tibetan Buddhist monk has died and another has been hospitalised in far western China, after setting themselves alight in protest against Chinese control over Tibetan life and culture.
• Highlighting the fact that one in four people suffer from depression, Norah Bohan explains why she set up a Twitter counselling service for people in difficulty over the Christmas holidays – and writes about its amazing in success – in  TheJournal.ie today.
