  • Enda Kenny was elected Taoiseach this afternoon and has announced his coalition cabinet, comprised of ten Fine Gael TDs and five from Labour. Each party got a junior ministry, and Marie Whelan SC has been nominated as the country’s first female Attorney General.
  • Some Independent TDs have been making use of the first day of the 31st Dáil by launching into criticism of the programme for government.   • NASA’s Discovery shuttle has landed safety in Florida after spending almost 13 days in space on its final mission.
  • Ireland’s favourite meal – for the second year running – is bacon and cabbage, according to a new survey.
  • An Taisce has voiced its objections to a €460m Vegas-style casino development planned for Two Mile Borris, Co Tipperary.
  • Be careful what you post: Facebook is used in evidence in 20 per cent of divorces in the US.
  • A five-year-old British boy has died after being buried by snow from a snowplough while on holidays at a Pyrenees ski resort with his family, Sky News reports.
  • Gaddafi’s forces have shelled the rebel-held oil city of Ras Lanuf and are still pushing to take control of the western city of Zawiyah, Al Jazeera reports.
