Two killed, and three hospitalised, in Kilkenny car crash

A married couple in their sixties are killed, and three others hospitalised, after the crash outside Kilkenny city.

A MARRIED COUPLE in their 60s have been killed, and three others hospitalised, in a car crash just outside Kilkenny city this evening.

The pair died when the car in which they were travelling stuck another vehicle at around 6:45pm this evening.

The fatal collision at Troyswood, around 2.5 miles outside Kilkenny city, on the R693 Kilkenny to Freshford road.

A 65-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene; his wife, 61, was later pronounced dead at St Luke’s Hospital in the city. It is thought the couple are from the north Tipperary area.

A third passenger in their car, who is female, was also taken to St Luke’s Hospital, as were the two passengers travelling in the other car. Their conditions have not been disclosed.

The road has been closed for a forensic investigation, and traffic diversions have been put in place.
