Waterford man sentenced to four years for manslaughter

Damien Organ, 25, never regained consciousness after being struck with a hurley during an altercation.

A WATERFORD MAN has been sentenced to four years in prison for the manslaughter of another man in March of last year.

Martin O’Brien, 22, of 128 The Quay, Waterford city, pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter of 25-year-old Damien Organ, RTÉ reports.

Organ was struck with a hurley during an altercation in the People’s Park in March 2010 and died in April after spending nine days in a coma, the court heard.

O’Brien was sentenced to futher 21 month for assaulting 28-year-old Liam Organ, the brother of the victim.
