Shotguns and slash hooks among weapons seized following raids at Traveller accommodation in Cork

A MAJOR SEARCH operation across 16 properties in Cork city has unearthed a huge haul of weapons including firearms, knives and golf clubs.

The searches were carried out in the St. Anthony’s Park, Traveller accommodation unit in Holyhill.

A teenager and two men in their 40s were arrested during the operation.

They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 in Togher and Bridewell Garda Stations.

“During the searches Gardaí recovered and seized firearms and ammunition along with slash hooks, knives and other assorted weapons,” a garda spokesperson said.

Two caravans and a 4×4 vehicle were also seized. Other property recovered included jewellery and cash.

The operation was led by Gardaí from Gurranabraher Garda station supported by units from across the Southern Region including the Regional Support Unit and other Specialist Units.

Officers from Revenue Customs Service were also involved.

Gardaí said in a statement that investigations are ongoing.
