The Office of the State Pathologist and the local Coroner have been notified.

A MAN HAS been arrested after a woman was found dead following an “incident” at a home in Waterford City early this morning.

Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident today at a residence on O’Brien Street in the city at 10am this morning. A woman was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead a short time later.

A man in his 30s was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident and his being held at a Garda station in the Eastern Region under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, on suspicion of an offence under the Non-Fatal Offenses Against the Person Act.

The dead woman remains at the scene which is being preserved for examination by the Garda Technical Bureau.

The Office of the State Pathologist and the local Coroner have been notified.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled for tomorrow morning. The findings from the post-mortem will assist Gardaí in determining the course of their investigation.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses and are seeking available camera footage, including dashcam recordings, from those who were in the vicinity of O’Brien Street at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305322 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
