A WOMAN IN her 60s was pronounced dead at the scene of a house fire this evening.

The blaze occurred at a home in Chesterfield Downs in Limerick city.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 5:30pm and arrived to the scene. No other injuries were reported, a garda spokesperson said.

The woman’s body remains at the scene, which is currently preserved for technical examination.

The spokesperson said: “The outcome of a post-mortem examination will determine the course of the Garda investigation”, but it is understood that at present, foul play is not suspected.
