Woman dies in Galway road accident

A female pedestrian aged in her 40s was killed after being struck by a car in Carraroe this evening.

A WOMAN IN her 40s has died after being hit by a car in Baile na hAbhann, Co Galway, this evening.

The incident occurred on the R336 at Baile na hAbhann at approximately 6pm, according to Gardaí.

The woman was taken to University College Hospital Galway where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the car was uninjured.

This road has been closed pending completion of an examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and local diversions are in place.

The road is expected to remain closed overnight.
