Man arrested after customers foil armed pub robbery

A group of customers tackled two men who were armed with a knife and shotgun.

A GROUP OF customers tackled armed raiders in a pub in Drogheda last night, detaining one and forcing the other to flee.

Gardai arrested a 21-year-old man following the botched armed robbery at a pub on Marsh Road last night.

The incident occurred at around 8.15pm when two men armed with a knife and a shotgun entered the premises and held up staff.

One of the raiders was held at the scene when customers intervened, while the second man fled the scene.

A small amount of cash taken during the raid was later recovered.

A customer and staff member injured during the incident were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A male arrested at the scene is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Drogheda Garda Station.

Gardaí say the investigation is ongoing.
