NEW LAWS AROUND the labelling of food in restaurants, cafes and takeaways come into effect today.
As of today, customers will have to be told if their food contains any of 14 allergens. This includes in the production or preparation of the food.
The regulations say that businesses will have to provide the details in a written format.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland says that food businesses should pay attention to how food is prepared and what is in food that is bought in from outside.
