Further arrest in connection with fatal Roscommon fire

A man in his 30s is arrested in connection with the fatal fire of eight days ago, in which five-year-old Mari Connolly was killed.

GARDAÍ IN BOYLE have arrested a man in his 30s in connection with a fatal house fire in the town eight days ago, which claimed the life of a five-year-old girl.

The man was arrested in Co Sligo this morning, and is being detained at Boyle Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí believe the fire was started maliciously. This morning’s arrest is the third in the investigation into the cause of the fire.

Five-year-old Mari Connolly was killed in the fire, which was discovered at the house on Termon Road between 2:30am and 3am on Monday morning of last week.

A man in his 40s and two young children, aged three and four, escaped from the house and were taken to Sligo General Hospital. The mother of the children was not in the house at the time, as she is pregnant and was in hospital at the time.
