Tara Palmer-Tomkinson 'did not have a brain tumour' and died from a perforated ulcer

Palmer-Tomkinson had been diagnosed with a brain tumour last year.

THE FAMILY OF the late British socialite Tara Palmer-Tomkinson have issued a statement to say that the 45-year-old died due to a perforated ulcer.

It had originally been believed that she had died from a brain tumour, which she had been diagnosed with last year.

Her sister Santa Montefiore tweeted earlier today that a coroner had found it wasn’t a brain tumour but a perforated ulcer which had caused Palmer-Tomkinson to die “peacefully in her sleep”.

In a separate statement, the socialite’s family rejected claims that Palmer-Tomkinson was in a “dark place” in the weeks and months before her death.

They said: “Those that knew and were close to Tara knew that there was no retreat to a “dark place” as some have disappointingly suggested. In the last few weeks Tara was happy, positive and making plans for when she recovered her health.

It has been a great source of comfort to know how loved she was by so many people.

In November of last year, Palmer-Tomkinson said that she had been diagnosed with the brain tumour in the pituitary gland the previous January, and that it had cleared following treatment.

During the 1990s and 2000s, Palmer-Tomkinson regularly made headlines for her hard partying, exhibitionist streak, and high-profile cocaine addiction.

She was also a newspaper columnist and television personality, speaking candidly about her battle with drugs and her health problems — including in recent months, her tumour.

Her funeral will be held on Monday 27 February.
