Bakery apologises for 'Just do it. He did it' Pistorius themed cookies

A POPULAR CAPE Town bakery was forced to apologise today after bringing out an array of Oscar Pistorius themed cookies ahead of the South African athlete’s murder trial next week.

The cookies – one of which depicted him with the logo of his former sponsor Nike and the wording “Just do it. He did it” – caused an online backlash.

Pistorius shot his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp through a bathroom door on Valentine’s Day last year. He claims he mistook her for an intruder.

The Paralympian gold medallist was also shown running with arms outstretched and the words “And the Oscar goes to jail”, a pun linked to the upcoming Oscars ceremony.

The bakery tweeted: “Not sure if these are in good taste, but they sure taste good” above a picture of the cookies, before deleting the tweet and apologising.

“We messed up completely & we own our mistake. We apologise sincerely & we regret any offence we have caused to the Steenkamp family,” said Charly’s Bakery.

The shop, known for its quirky baked goods and featured on a reality television show, said the biscuits were not for sale.

The murder trial opens Monday.
