Lock up your wheelie bins - Gusts of up to 120km/h sweep across Ireland

Two wind warnings remain in place today.

TIE DOWN EVERYTHING you own – Met Éireann has said gusts of up to 120 km per hour are expected today, particularly in coastal areas in the north and west.

A status orange wind warning has been in place since yesterday for Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo and will remain in place until tomorrow morning.

For Leinster, Munster, Cavan, Monaghan and Roscommon a status yellow wind warning has been issued, with gusts of between 90 and 100km per hour.

In Limerick, the city and county council has advised the public to exercise extreme caution over the next 24 hours.

Members of the public are advised to remain indoors where possible during the storm and to stay away from rivers and other water bodies. The Council is on full alert and will respond to emergencies as they arise or as it is safe to do so.

Winds are expected to become very strong in most places, reaching gale force strength on exposed coasts. Rain in the west will spread to all areas by early afternoon with some heavy rainfall and thunder in places.

Hail showers will affect the western part of the country tonight and it will turn cold, with lowest temperatures dropping to between 2 and 4 degrees.
