Zelensky visit

1. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy begins his first official visit to Ireland today - he’s set to pay a courtesy call to President Connolly this morning before meeting with the Taoiseach and addressing the joint Houses of Oireachtas.

Old landfills

2. The Journal Investigates has found that just 10% of Ireland’s historic landfills have been certified by the Environmental Protection Agency over 15 years since the regulations were introduced, despite evidence some are polluting waterways.

Cabinet to ‘fast track’ projects

3. Cabinet today is expected to sign off on a number of proposals aimed at speeding up the delivery of homes and large infrastructure projects, including specific actions on emergency legislation to fast tract key projects and measures to reform judicial reviews.

National Review Panel

4. The National Review Panel, which conducts reviews in child deaths and serious incidents, is to be placed on a statutory footing.

Garda tasers

5. More than 100 gardaí are to be given taser guns as part of a new six-month pilot project.

EU Belarus sanctions

6. The EU is drawing up new sanctions against the government of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko, which it accuses of a “hybrid” campaign against neighbouring Lithuania, EU chief Ursula von der Leyen said today.

Bird flu

7. A bird flu outbreak was confirmed on a turkey flock in Cavan yesterday, bringing the number of outbreaks in the past month to five.

Taxi protest

8. Taxi drivers are set to stage another protest across Dublin city tomorrow against Uber’s fixed fares.

PSNI investigating politician threats

9. Police in Northern Ireland have launched an investigation over threats made to politicians by masked men calling themselves the “New Republican Movement”.
